Welcome to the RAK Academy Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for choosing RAK Academy to educate your son/daughter. Our vision at RAK Academy is to provide a ‘Centre of Excellence in Learning at the Heart of the Community’. One way we have chosen to meet this vision is to adopt the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). The Academy Vision and PYP curriculum provide a national and international approach to learning, enabling students to meet their potential and future aspirations.

Facilities at RAK Academy PYP include 60+ classrooms, theatre and music rooms, gymnasium and sports facilities, two computer suites, a huge library and a campus wide wireless network. The PYP campus caters for Kindergarten and Primary, with over 1250 students and 85 teachers, representing 20 nationalities. In PYP there are between 5 and 7 classes per year level. Maximum class size is 25.

The administration of the school consists of an Executive Principal for the Academy, with each school (PYP/BC/SEC) having a Head of School, with two Deputy Heads. Each grade level has a Year Leader, plus Coordinators for each subject department. The PYP has one fulltime Curriculum Coordinator, one fulltime Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Coordinator, and a School Counsellor.

PYP students study a research-based international curriculum that accommodates:

  • local traditions and global events, promoting intercultural understandings;
  • an inquiry approach to studying multiple integrated subjects;
  • two world languages and cultures – English and Arabic; and
  • a safe setting to develop student social behaviour and emotional resilience.

In addition to the mainstream programme we encourage all students to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities such as art, music, sports, charity and leadership opportunities to capture their interests and passions.

As the world changes and faces globalisation we pride ourselves in preparing students to become adaptable enquirers, multilingual global citizens fully prepared to emerge into positions of great worth to society.

We hope you find this website useful in understanding the PYP School. Should you have further questions please don’t hesitate to ask someone in the Office for assistance.

Thank you again.
